The Georgia Ports Authority will be the focus of the CCA of Skidaway’s October meeting and seminar to be held on Monday, October 9, at St. Peter’s Church beginning at 7:00 pm. Lee Beckmann, the Manager of Governmental Affairs for the Georgia Ports Authority, will provide an update on the Georgia Ports Authority and give a progress report on the Savannah Harbor Expansion Project.
Georgia’s deep-water ports in Savannah and Brunswick, together with inland barge operations in Bainbridge and Columbus, are Georgia’s gateways to the world. They are the critical conduits through which raw materials and finished products flow to and from destinations around the globe.
The Georgia Ports Authority is dedicated to providing customers with the most efficient, productive port facilities in the nation and to creating jobs and business opportunities to benefit more than 9.7 million Georgians. The GPA is committed to maintaining its competitive edge through development of leading-edge technology, marketing, and operations to move cargo faster.
One of the most important and productive civil works projects in the country, the Savannah Harbor Expansion Project will support jobs and commerce throughout the nation. The total economic impact of Georgia’s deep-water ports on Georgia’s economy is $84 billion. The Georgia Ports Authority supports more than 369,000 jobs and approximately $20.4 billion in personal income annually. Deepening is underway with completion as early as 2020.
Lee Beckmann has been the Manager of Governmental Affairs for the Georgia Ports Authority since 2003. His responsibilities include managing governmental relations and a statewide outreach campaign for the GPA. Prior to joining the GPA, Lee served as a Legislative Assistant to Congressman Jack Kingston, overseeing several legislative issues as well as appropriations for the Congressman – helping to secure funding for projects like the harbor deepening in Savannah and Brunswick.
